Ninety-years young for Pomona’s spectacular secret murals

    THE year is 1925 and Pomona greengrocer William Hodge has closed his store in Reserve St for the day. He walks along the gravel road to the recently built Cooroora Masonic Temple not far away in Station St. It’s dark inside and, because electricity isn’t going to come to Pomona until 1941, he lights a kerosene lamp and gazes at the bare timber walls. Rose of respect for 65 years with Freemasons


THE Freemasons of the Capes Region paid homage to one of their own at a Rose Presentation dinner on Friday night. Keith MacKinnon was honoured for more than 65 years service with the Masons. Masons from Sussex, Naturaliste, Nannup Day Lodge and Margaret River Lodges along with their wives, family and friends filled the Masonic Temple in Busselton. More than 80 people packed the Masonic centre but most important of all were the 10 MacKinnon family members there to share the moment. HIGH-RANKING Freemasons from throughout New Zealand and Australia will descend on Queenstown this weekend to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Masonic fraternity in Queenstown. Celebrations include a procession of Freemasons along Marine Pde to the reserve in front of Novotel Lakeside Hotelon Saturday, where New Zealand Grand Master John Litton, of Wellington, will unveil a special plaque dedicated to the occasion, with help from Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden. Oakland: Freemasons lodge turning back the clock


OAKLAND — The Scottish Rite Center that overlooks Lake Merritt is undergoing a $1.2 million renovation to return the lodge to its original glory. For 60 days, the building will close so workers can replace the roof, install LED lighting and sound systems and make the building handicap accessible.
