Temple granted heritage wish


THE majestic Masonic Temple in Bourke St is the major beneficiary of a heritage grant program jointly funded by the council and state government. The 1890, EC Manfred designed two storey building is a defining building in the streetscape. Manfred, a Freemason himself, designed the first storey but the second wasn’t added until 1929. Now the structure will receive a fresh lick of paint with the help of a $5000 Council heritage grant. The total cost is estimated at $30,000. Egyptian panels unveiled for rare 90-minute viewing of Egyptian Room at Royal Arch Masonic Centre in Petersham


Treasured Egyptian panels rarely viewed by the public will be seen for just 90 minutes when the Masonic Centre in Petersham opens its doors.  Once every year, people have the chance to see and hear a translation of what the panels mean – depicting the ancient and unique Egyptian Book of the Dead scenario in which Ani the scribe and his wife Thuthu present a scroll petition to the powerful god Osiris. Chinese Exhibition at the Masonic Lodge Leopold


A wonderful display of Chinese ceramics is set up in the Masonic Hall. We have had several exhibitions of Chinese art and craft works and this display once again demonstrates the close relationship we have with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. Formed in 1884 and operating continuously until 2012, the Lodge Leopold charter was in existence for 129 years. There were over 1054 members of the Lodge during that time, with 141 members in 1979, though at the close in 2012 there were just 10.
