Masons honor local man for 70 years of membership

He started back in 1945, when he was just 23 years old. Now 70 years later at the age of 93, Jim Conboy was honored by Odenton Lodge 209 of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons for seven decades of membership. A luncheon was held at the Odenton Masonic Lodge, 1206 Stehlik Road on Saturday with more than 60 people in attendance to recognize Conboy for his dedication to the Masons. Shriners, Patients Break Ground for New Medical Center Located at University of Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 10, 2015) — Shriners from throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana joined local Shriners Hospital for Children – Lexington representatives, Shriners patients, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and officials from the University of Kentucky and UK HealthCare in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of the new $47 million Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center. The new, state-of-the-art ambulatory facility will be constructed at the University of Kentucky campus across from the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children’s Hospital. The lodge convened its first meeting in Newman’s Hall. At this meeting members established a tradition, which has been adhered to this day. They voted to convene their meetings the first Wednesday of each month, on or before the full of the moon. Summerville Masons celebrate 100 years of community service

The Summerville Masonic Lodge (#234) had a centennial celebration March 7. The lodge was first chartered in 1892, but was inactive for a period before reopening in 1915. It has remained open ever since. “During the past 100 years this lodge has never missed a monthly meeting,” Summerville Masonic Lodge Worshipful Master Robert H. “Bob” Kuziak said. “Even the month that Hurricane Hugo hit South Carolina we had a meeting.” To mark the anniversary, Masons laid a new ceremonial cornerstone and re-dedicated the lodge located at 111 Main Street.
