Middlesex Masons support Guildford Cathedral

Middlesex Masons support Guildford Cathedral

Guildford Cathedral aerialMiddlesex Freemasonry is focused on assisting those in the community whenever and wherever we can and we have consistently demonstrated this over many years.

Our annual Provincial Service of Thanksgiving will be held, this year, at Guildford Cathedral and we recently established that the Cathedral was having major problems with Asbestos, causing them to need to find £1.3m by August to have it removed and put the Cathedral back in a good state to be used. When our PProvJGW and Service of Thanksgiving organiser, W Bro Michael Karn, heard this he set about seeing how Middlesex could demonstrate again what we believe and assist Guildford.

What then happened was a great example of how Middlesex Masons think

One suggestion that was raised was that we gave the Cathedral half the Offertory collection we make on the day of the Service. Middlesex went further and agreed to donate the whole Offertory collection to assist (c £1,750); but it didn’t stop there!

This Offertory collection is not going to happen until November and the Cathedral needed the money by August so Middlesex decided to donate the money now from funds within the Province; but it didn’t stop there!

Bro Michael then took another stage to assist Guildford by suggesting they call the Grand Charity to see if some assistance could come from there. The Grand Charity replied and agreed to match any local Masonic funding, doubling any donation Middlesex (and possibly Surrey) would make.

This is a great demonstration of ‘working in the community for the community’ on which Middlesex Freemasons pride themselves.
