Musician Jack White saves Detroit Masonic Temple, paying off concert venue’s $142K tax bill


The Detroit Masonic Temple has announced that musician Jack White is the anonymous person who stepped forward to pay off their $142,000 outstanding tax bill. The revelation last month that an anonymous donor had paid off the mammoth tax bill, and saved the Masonic Temple from foreclosure, touched off a media firestorm. A building full of stories


Troy’s Masonic Temple, which was built in 1892, has been named to Alabama’s 2013 “Places in Peril” list. The Alabama Historical Commission and the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation announced the list of “Places in Peril” on Thursday. The list is released annually during National Historic Preservation Month and calls attention to some of Alabama’s most significant endangered landmarks. Although, the “Places in Peril” list carries no formal protection, it does build awareness in local communities about endangered sites and can help generate support to preserve these places.
